A plant well known for its health benefits and used for its medicinal properties and possibly one of the most used aromatics in cooking. Dried bay leaves have a delicate, warm, slightly bitter aroma.
Its use is suitable in dishes that require slow cooking over a low heat, such as stews, sauces and roasts, as its essential oil is released slowly.
Most of the slightly sweet and refreshing aromas reside in the intense oils absorbed from the inside, as such crushing the bay leaf will release a flavorful impact - just be sure to remove them before serving.
